The Brookings Police Department is accepting applications for this year’s Citizen First Responder Academy — a program that mixes classroom and in-the-field work to introduce citizens to procedures and techniques used by law enforcement. The twelve-week program runs once day a week starting August 30th and gives participants hands-on experiences with things like defense tactics, traffic stops, crime scenes, and more.
Attendees receive instruction by the Brookings Police Department, Brookings Sheriff’s Office, University Police Department, Department of Criminal Investigations, Brookings Fire Department, Brookings Highway Patrol, Court Services, Probation, Parole and Brookings Emergency Medical Services.
The seminar is free, but space is limited. Applications are available in-person at the Brookings Police Department or through the City of Brookings website at https://cityofbrookings-sd.gov/292/Citizens-First-Responder-Academy.
