Big jump in active COVID-19 cases as Smithfield test results come in

No additional COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota today but there is a big jump in active cases as results continue to come in from the mass testing of Smithfield workers and their close contacts.

The state stands at 31 deaths.

There is an increase of 239 positive cases today with a total of 3144. There are now 1044 active cases, an increase of 198 from Thursday.

The Department reports 2069 people have recovered and 247 are in the “ever hospitalized” category. Current hospitalizations are at 76. There have been 18,149 negative tests.

Brookings County remains at 14 cases with one active. There have been 406 negative tests conducted in Brookings County.
