Brookings boy reports being pushed down, hit with beer bottle by two unknown suspects

Brookings police are investigating the assault of a 9-year-old boy as he was walking home.

It happened at about 4:15 Monday afternoon at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 8th Street.

Police say the boy was pushed down into a snowbank and struck in the back of the head with a beer bottle.

The boy did not know the two individuals involved. He says they were about 5’7″ tall, both were slender and both were wearing black, hooded sweatshirts with the hoods cinched tight over their faces. The boy was not sure of their gender but believes they may have been college-age males.

The two suspects fled the area and the boy was able to run home safely after receiving minor injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Brookings Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 692-STOP.
