Five COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Wednesday; active cases continue to fall

Five COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Wednesday in the South Dakota Department of Health weekly update. The statewide total is 2898.

Active cases in Brookings County decrease by two to 10. Four new cases reported since April 6th, the total is 8100. Recovered cases are at 8038. There have been 52 deaths reported in Brookings County. The County is in the “moderate” community spread category.

Statewide, active cases fall by 72 to 416. Total cases increase by 127 in the last week to 237,370 There are 234,056 recovered cases. Current hospitalizations increase by six to 47.

Seventy-two percent of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Fifty-nine percent have completed a vaccine series and 33-percent have received a booster.
