Huge jumps in South Dakota COVID-19 positives as reporting error means hundreds of cases were not previously counted

No COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Thursday, the total remains 162.

However, there are major increases in cases today. State health department officials say there was an error in reporting cases this week and numbers were not correctly reported for a few days.

Active cases in Brookings County increase by 26 to 59. The overall case count is 224, a major jump from yesterday’s report. There has been one death in Brookings County and 5 hospitalizations.

Because of the data error statewide, the active case count went up by nearly 500 to 2000. Total positives increased by 343 today and total 12,194. The number of people who have recovered is 10,032. Current hospitalizations increase by 17 to 75. Total tests conducted in the state are 183,918.

The 343 new cases reported today are a record number for a single day in South Dakota.
