It’s Election Day in Brookings

 

Today is election day in Brookings and there is a full slate of candidates for this year’s City and School Election.

There are three candidates for Brookings Mayor. Current Council Member Ope Niemeyer, former Brookings Police Chief Jeff Miller and Bradley Walker are all running. Current Mayor Keith Corbett is not seeking reelection

There are five candidates for two Brookings City Council seats. Incumbent Council Members Patty Bacon and Nick Wendell are running as are Isaiah Crevier, Nick Schmeichel and Nate Holden.

There are four candidates for two Brookings School Board seats. Incumbent Debra DeBates as well as Keli Books, Jacqueline Johnson and Jade Withers are all running.

The second seat is currently held by Roger DeGroot who is not seeking reelection.

As of Friday, some 855 early ballots had been cast. Compare that to June’s City and School Election when more than 2100 votes were early.

Polls are open until 7:00 pm. You can vote at any one of the 4 vote centers — Brookings Activity Center, Bethel Baptist Church, Holy Life Tabernacle Church and Aurora Little Hall.
