SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Gov. Kristi Noem says she’ll continue her current guidance for business restrictions after lawmakers rejected her request to let the state health secretary impose mandatory measures.
Lawmakers met overnight through early Tuesday and approved several measures, including postponing local elections from mid-April until June and waiving state requirements on schools due to the coronavirus. But they declined the Republican governor’s request that the state health secretary and county officials be granted the power to close businesses.
The state has reported one death and more than 100 confirmed cases of the virus.
