A petition submitted for an initiated measure to remove the sales tax on food was validated and filed on Monday.

It will be Initiated Measure 28 and, barring a successful challenge, it will appear on the 2024 General Election ballot in November.

An initiated measure currently requires 17,508 valid signatures to make it to the ballot.

The Secretary of State’s Office conducted a random sample of the petition signatures and found nearly 87-percent, or more than 22,000, to be valid.

The ballot measure validation may be challenged but that must be done by June 12th.
