Roberts Co. Sheriff: Largest fentanyl seizure in South Dakota history

The Roberts County Sheriff’s Office says they have taken part in the largest fentanyl seizure in South Dakota history,

A Roberts County deputy and a Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Officer seized just under 16-and-a-half pounds of fentanyl and fentanyl-laced pills in a traffic stop. Nearly 13 pounds of the bust consisted of some 53,000 pills.

Roberts County Sheriff Tyler Appel says the weights are approximate at this time.

Two people were arrested but are not yet being named due to the ongoing investigation.

The cost of these drugs seized would exceed $2 million in street value.

The case has been referred to the United States Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
