A Scotland, South Dakota man has changed his plea in a triple homicide that occurred in November of 2021.

Francis Lange pleads guilty but mentally ill to murder charges in the shooting deaths of his former girlfriend, her father, and a friend. A 5-year-old girl and another woman received serious injuries in the shooting but survived.

He had been found competent to stand trial.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says the plea will not affect sentencing as Lange will face three mandatory life sentences without parole.

Sentencing is set for July 24th.
