Sioux Falls man injured in I-29 collision near Brookings

A Sioux Falls man is injured in a two-vehicle accident early Sunday morning on Interstate 29 near Brookings.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says a pickup driven by 22-year-old Brayden Kane Thomas of Bismark, North Dakota was heading south when the vehicle struck a guard rail cable near mile marker 132 and became disabled. It happened at about 12:20 am.

The pickup was partly in the driving lane without headlights or hazard lights on. A pickup driven by 50-year-old Mark Daniel Olson of Sioux Falls was was also heading south and hit the disabled truck. Olson’s pickup entered the west ditch and rolled. Olson was transported by ambulance to the Brookings Hospital and then transferred to Sioux Falls.

Thomas was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages, which is believed to be a contributing factor to the accident. He’s facing charges of DUI, careless driving, and operating a vehicle without headlights.
