Tractor and planter lost in fire near Bruce

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department reports two fires.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says the Sheriff’s Office and Bruce Fire Department responded to a tractor fire at about 7:30 Friday evening about a mile-and-a-half southeast of Bruce at 46659 205th Street.

The owner of the tractor was pulling a corn planter when a fire started under the engine compartment of the tractor. The Case tractor with computer equipment, a Case 24-row planter, 100 units of seed, and 120 gallons of diesel fuel were all lost. The estimated value is more than $328,000.

The Sheriff’s Office and Brookings Fire Department responded to a fire in a field at about 11:00 o’clock Saturday morning.

Sebring says it was located at 16th Avenue West and Highway 14.

The Brookings Fire Department extinguished the fire. The cause is believed to be faulty wiring in a water tank heater. That started grass and a small amount of hay on fire. The damage is estimated at $3,500.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating both fires.
