Volga woman killed in Moody County crash

A Volga woman has been identified as the person who died Friday night in a two-vehicle crash west of Flandreau.

A northbound pickup on 474th Avenue failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of with South Dakota Highway 32. The vehicle collided in the intersection with an eastbound pickup.

Five people were in that second pickup. One of the passengers, 39-year-old Candice Peterson, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 48-year-old Scott Schade and a 15-year-old female passenger both suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. A 39-year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries and was not transported. A 10-year-old male passenger was not injured. All are from Volga.

The driver of the other pickup. 63-year-old Jeffrey Eitreim of Brandon, sustained life-threatening injuries. He was first transported by ambulance to the Flandreau hospital and then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

All six people involved were wearing seat belts.

The Highway Patrol is investigating.
