COVID-19 cases continue to climb in South Dakota; statewide active cases dropped over the 3-day weekend

A significant increase in COVID-19 cases over the three-day weekend in South Dakota although active cases have dropped.

Three COVID-19 deaths reported since Friday, raising the total to 173.

Active cases in Brookings County increase by 7 to 189. The overall case count is up 92 since Friday to 523. There has been one death in Brookings County and eight hospitalizations. The County is in the “substantial” community spread category.

Statewide, active cases have dropped by 140 since Friday and are at 2892. Total positive cases increased by 704 and are now at 15,300. The number of people who have recovered is 12,235. Current hospitalizations dropped by 11 and are down to 78.
