Elkton School Board accepts teacher’s resignation, rejects superintendent’s
At their meeting Wednesday, the Elkton School Board rejected the resignation of Superintendent Brian Jandahl but accepted the resignation of the teacher who had invited a registered sex offender to her classroom.
This came after extensive public comment on the matter.
The offender, Andrew Polly, was convicted of sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl in 2017 when Polly was 20-years-old. When Polly’s status as a sex offender was learned by the administration, they reported the situation to law enforcement. He has since been charged with loitering in a safe zone. Polly is also barred from the school premises.
The school board accepted the resignation of first-grade teacher Taylor Thompson and wished her well. Jandahl’s resignation was rejected and he will remain in his role. Both votes were unanimous.
The Board also held a first reading of new policies regarding sex offenders and guest speakers. They will be discussed again at the next meeting.
Jandahl said he plans to retire after the 2024-25 school year.
