South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem traveled to Madison Wednesday to sign the bill that funds a new Center for Quantum Information Science and Technology at Dakota State University.

SB 45 provides a $3 million dollar appropriation to establish the center.

South Dakota is a leader in emerging technology, and this center will combine numerous fields to make advancements in cybersecurity, agriculture, healthcare, and more.

Noem had requested six-million dollars for the center in her budget but the legislature trimmed that to three-million.

At Wednesday’s signing, Noem says this kind of high tech can help to diversify the state’s economy.

The signing took place at the Dakota State University Madison Cyber Labs.
