Tschetter wins School Board race; Niemeyer, Collins take Council seats

A night for incumbents as results came in for the Brookings City Council and School Board Election.

School Board Member Wes Tschetter wins another term easily besting three challengers. It was 1353 votes for Tschetter. Kyle Dahl had 380, Jacqueline Johnson 353 and Tasi Barondeau with 348.

Incumbent Ope Niemeyer wins reelection with 1588 votes and Joey Collins wins a seat with 1261 votes. Cassie Juba is third at 1042.

The second seat is currently held by Dan Hansen who chose not to seek reelection.

Voter turnout in the City Election is just under 21-percent. In the School Board Election, it’s about 17-percent. Early/absentee voting dominated this election as 2168 of the 2623 total votes cast were early ballots.

The election had originally been set for April but was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
